Farm Life in Spring: Homeschooling, Gardening, and Golden Retriever Puppies

One of the biggest updates from this month has been the difficult decision regarding Sylvie. As many of you know, every breeding decision we make is rooted in integrity, ensuring that our dogs are not only beautiful but also healthy and well-suited for family life. Unfortunately, Sylvie's OFA results didn’t come back as we had hoped, and after much prayer and careful consideration, we made the decision to remove her from our breeding program.

While it was disappointing, God’s providence is always good, and Sylvie’s story has a happy ending. A wonderful family who has followed our journey for quite some time reached out, and we knew they were the perfect match. Sylvie has settled into her new home beautifully, and the updates we’ve received remind us why we do what we do. She is adored, spoiled, and living her best life—exactly what we want for every one of our dogs.

The Anticipation of Cozy’s Upcoming Litter

With one chapter closing, another is about to begin. Cozy is just a few weeks away from welcoming her next litter, and we could not be more excited! There’s always something special about preparing for new puppies, and this time is no different. We’ve been making sure everything is ready—from the whelping area to Cozy’s nutrition—so that she has everything she needs for a smooth delivery.

This upcoming litter is particularly exciting because we’re planning to keep back a female for our program. Cozy is everything we love in a Golden Retriever—gentle, loving, and an absolute joy to be around. We can’t wait to see the personalities of her puppies unfold and help them find the perfect homes. If you're on our waitlist, keep an eye on your inbox because puppy updates are coming soon!

Preparing the Farm for Spring

Beyond our dog-related updates, this season is bringing a whole new level of busyness to our farm. The ground is finally warming up, which means it’s time to get our hands in the dirt! Our garden is one of my favorite aspects of homesteading, and this year we’re expanding a bit. We’ve been starting seedlings indoors—tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and even some flowers to brighten up the space.

With the kids alongside me, we’ve been preparing the soil, clearing out winter debris, and making plans for our planting schedule. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching little hands carefully plant seeds, knowing they’ll soon be tending to fresh produce that will make its way to our table (and, hopefully, to our farm stand in the near future!).

Springtime also means fresh eggs are in abundance. Our hens are back in full production mode, and it’s been fun gathering baskets full of eggs each morning. The kids love checking the nesting boxes, and it’s become part of our daily rhythm to incorporate egg collection into their morning chores.

    Weaving Homeschooling into Farm Life

Homeschooling naturally weaves its way into our daily routine here on the farm. Whether it’s counting eggs, observing the different stages of plant growth, or even learning about animal husbandry through our dogs, there’s always something hands-on for the kids to learn.

Lately, we’ve been focusing a lot on nature studies. With everything coming back to life outside, it’s the perfect time for outdoor journaling and science lessons. The kids have been sketching new buds on trees, tracking the changes in the garden, and learning about pollinators. It’s these everyday moments—where learning feels effortless yet deeply impactful—that make me so grateful for the homeschool lifestyle.
